“The eyes of the model are the most important thing I focus on. If the eyes don’t evoke emotions, no one will get what I’m trying to say through my photo.”

Intercru: Where are you from and where do you live and work now?

Bharat: I was born and stay in the heart of Mumbai, India. Apart from being a photographer I am also a creative producer on Bollywood movies and have worked on some of the all time blockbusters of Indian Cinema. Both movies and photography are passions and I pursue them together!

I get appreciated for my framing- this is because I have worked with some of the finest DOP’s (director of photography) and directors in Bollywood and their sense of storytelling has inspired me.

What is the most important thing in photography?

The story you want to tell. Unlike movies, where you can take time to tell your story, in a photograph- that one photo needs to tell everything. The eyes of the model are the most important thing I focus on. If the eyes don’t evoke emotions, no one will get what I’m trying to say through my photo.

What is your favorite part about taking portraits?

Meeting new people and creating photos with them and making sure each and every photo is different from the previous shoots I have done.

I also love traveling and in January this year I’ve shot with some of the biggest modeling agencies all over Europe and Tokyo! So from now on whenever I travel, I will make sure to connect with models and agencies and do photoshoots in different parts of the world!

What do you do to find creative inspiration?

Referencing, referencing, and more referencing!!! It gives you a good idea where to start and then once I meet the model, we sit down and take that idea and create our own images. The models are very happy to go with the ideas I want to create because the kind of images I’m shooting in India are very different! In fact, when I was collaborating with models in Europe, they actually told me that my work looks quite European! I also follow a lot of photographers from all over Europe who inspire me!

What would be your dream photoshoot?

My dream photoshoot would be to go on a road trip all over Iceland in the summer and document one model throughout this journey.
